Cast Lead

We Germans have lots of traditions pertaining to New Year's Eve (which over here is called Silvester) and the beginning of each new year. Just from the top of my head: Of course, there is food, in many families traditionally Fondue, there's the firecrackers, and there's drinking in moderation, of course! And then there's the weirder traditions, like watching the same, English-language (!) skit every year.

‘Raped by Demons’ or ‘The Haunted Cheese Sandwich’

I’ve read my latest free copy of ‘City News’ – have you? It’s a fab free publication by the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, an international Pentacostal organisation of Brazilian origin.

Reading about other people’s problems to alleviate desperation at your own may not be the most morally sound pastime, but it’s a human constant. My eye was caught by this one:

"This may sound bizarre and unbelievable, but since a long-term relationship break up I have been getting feelings of something having sex with me. I can fell myself being pushed down and this thing on top of me ..."

Psychic Detectives

Evening all. Two jolly queer stories this week from Dock Green.

Firstly, Police in Lampeter spent £20,000 following up tips from psychics in a murder investigation. The suicide verdict was questioned when mediums told the police that a lion, a horse and a man called Tony Fox were important. So off went the Boys In Blue round all the local pubs with Lion or Horse in the name.

Richard Dawkins Interviews Derren Brown

[BPSDB] This is an absolutely fascinating interview between Richard Dawkins and Derren Brown on the subject of psychics, where Brown lays into his "peers", and explains how he believes they rationalize their work. The interview was conducted for "Enemies of Reason", a new documentary, and although only a few minutes will be shown in the final cut, the whole interview was deemed interesting enough to put online for the public to see. It's nearly an hour long, but well worth watching.
