God Squad

Evening all. Constable George Dixon with you again.

Last month I told you about the Home Office giving the Christian Police Association £10,000 to fight crime with the power of prayer.

This month, there's more on prayer and policework. Inspector Roger Bartlett of Devon and Cornwall police has said that he is 'convinced' faith has a positive effect on policing. And he has proof. Let's take a look at that while I have my tea break.

Adopt A Cop

Evening all. Police Constable George Dixon here to report more rum doings at Dock Green. The Home Office has given the Christian Police Association(CPA) £10,000 to fight crime with the power of prayer.

The CoAct Adopt A Cop project will fund Christians and police working together in the community.

A CPA co-ordinator at each police station tells churches what needs praying about and CoAct have also issued a list of general guidelines that include praying for:

The Prayers of a Nurse, and the "Christian Legal Centre"

[bpsdb] Every so often I read a story that seems to have a lot more going on behind the scenes than the tabloid hack summary suggests. Just such a story cropped up on my radar this morning, involving a Christian nurse who was allegedly suspended for offering prayers to her patients. It's the latest in a long line of similar stories that have appeared in the press recently, from the Christian counsellor who was disciplined for refusing to give advice to homosexuals, to the Christian pharmacist who wouldn't sell contraceptive pills. The stories are related for obvious reasons, but in the press today a name appeared, and from that name and a bit of searching around I found that there is another, more interesting connection between these stories.

Parents Who Treated Child With Prayer Charged with Homicide

BPSDBA while ago I posted the story of an 11-year-old child in Wisconsin, U.S.A. who died of diabetic ketoacidosis after her parents decided to cure her with prayer rather than seek medical treatment. Well, the District Attorney has decided to prosecute them for second-degree reckless homicide.

Child Dies as Couple Pray Rather Than Accept Medical Treatment

BPSDBU.S. newspaper Capital times reports that an 11-year-old girl spent a month dying after he parents neglected to get her medical treatment in the form of insulin for her diabetes, preferring instead to pray. The mother remains apparently in a state of religious denial, believing that if she prays hard enough her dead daughter will be resurrected. I just noticed that PalMD and PZ Myers also have articles about this shocking story.
