There are lots and lots of reasons to like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

Among them:
- It just started working again, and is now smashing particles for the first time.
- It's kinda funny when people don't spell-check their articles about it.
- Nearly 8,000 scientists and engineers work at CERN, hailing from 80 different countries and representing nearly 600 universities and research facilities.
- The scientists employed at CERN actively try and engage the public about their work and its depiction in popular culture.
But the Best thing about it, in my book, is the fact that it's the biggest machine ever built, measuring about 27 kilometres (about 17 miles) in circumference. Why is that so great? Because to me it proves that humankind can work cooperatively, internationally, to spend about 3.7 Billion Euros (about 3.3 Billion Pounds) on a scientific project, and built the worlds largest machine to do it - and I find it a comforting thought that it's a civilian (and scientific) project that can proudly present these numbers, not something the military with their often unrestrained budget did.
It gives you this warm and fuzzy feeling...
History only repeats itself if one doesn't listen the first time.
