Anti-Vaccine Cranks Body Count Blog Widget

[bpsdb] Following the launch of Derek Bartholomaus' Jenny McCarthy Body Count project, The Lay Scientist is proud to announce the release of the Jenny McCarthy / Anti-Vax Body Count Widget.

With a few clicks, you can add this to your blog or website, and display the number of deaths and illnesses caused by vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States since June 2007, when McCarthy begame the face of the U.S. anti-vaccine movement. In this manner, we hope to bring home to people in the starkest terms the fact that vaccine preventable diseases like Measles are dangerous.

This is not intended by Derek to imply that Jenny McCarthy or others are directly responsible for these casualties, but these are deaths and illnesses that people who spread misinformation about vaccines are potentially contributing to.

For more information about the Jenny McCarthy Body Count, including details of the methodology that Derek uses, see the website at www.jennymccarthybodycount.com. Please leave feedback about the widgets in the comments.

Please note that I am not involved in the running of this project, and simply provide this blog widget passing on information from their site. Responsbly for the project and its name rests with Derek at www.jennymccarthybodycount.com. Please direct complaints here in the first instance.

Is there BBCODE for the widget n'aw?

Martin on Tue, 04/14/2009 - 19:36

In the code, each example uses a different php file to generate an image (yeah, I know, I know), so you can call:

[img]http://www.layscience.net/bodycount.php[/img]
[img]http://www.layscience.net/vaxbodycount.php[/img]
or
[img]http://www.layscience.net/plainbodycount.php[/img]

Depending on whether you want Jenny+Pic, Anti-Vax+Pic or Anti-Vax+No Pic. You lose the links of course.

The widget (at least, my version, without Jenny's face, which I just couldn't bear to look at) isn't working right. Seems to be an image file problem. Any ideas on how to correct it?

Martin on Wed, 04/15/2009 - 15:19

It's a temporary problem caused by a bug on my server. I'm going to fix it tonight, and then everything will be up and working again. Bit embarassing, but I wasn't expecting quite such a huge response!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dynle7mpazA&NR=1

This is a video of Kennedy talking about a book he had written with regard to Autism caused by vaccine.

and the following is a quote from New Jersey parents fighting for freedom to decide on what kind of treatment to give their healthy kids.

“Middleton said the vaccination mandates are not about children’s health.
“I believe the government and big pharmacies are in bed together,” Middleton said, adding that if the state cared about children’s health it would demand “green vaccines” that do not contain neurotoxins and carcinogens such as thimerosal, formaldehyde, mercury and aluminum.
Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk (R District-39), the primary sponsor of the conscientious objection bill, said federal law exempts vaccine manufacturers from liability. She said the federal government compensates those parents who can establish a firm timeline between a vaccination and a resulting injury or death and has paid $910 million toward vaccination-damaged children. She said as of Oct. 1, the federal government had 988 vaccination-related deaths on file.

“What about the products causing the deaths”

Now it is more than dubious that vaccinations have abated smallpox and the rest of the diseases, since it is a known fact amongs biologists and MD’s who have eyes, to observe that the strong decline of these diseases happened before vaccinations were introduced!

This particular lie that the decline is due to vaccinations gave the pharmaceuticals the license to damage the health of already billions babies (today adults) all over the world.. As Autism is the disease of the ninties onwards. But what with allergies, respiratory and gastric problems, ticks, ear infections, you name it that is so spread in modern times.
For some reason I am certain that the Big-Farma CE’s see that their offspring is not vaccinated.

Martin on Wed, 04/15/2009 - 18:43

What is it with conspiracy theorists and Youtube videos?

As I like to say, evidence or stfu. When somebody posts reliable studies that provide good evidence for a link between vaccines and autism, I'll be the first to blog about it. Indeed, I've attacked pharmaceutical companies in the past, as have most science bloggers. Such evidence simply doesn't exist for these vaccines, and pretending that vaccines haven't abated diseases like smallpox is bordering on the delusional.

"For some reason I am certain that the Big-Farma CE’s see that their offspring is not vaccinated.
"

I bet you ten thousand dollars that most of them have, just as most medical professionals and immunologists will vaccinate their children too. As somebody with experience in immune system modelling I certainly do.

Big Pharma makes next to no money on vaccines.
When I vaccinate people, I make an hourly wage lower than if I just did my regular job. A lot lower. And in four hours I may vaccinate 200+ people.

So, not only am I paid less, I also get a short shift, which means I can't go work my regular job. In other words, I lose money to be of help to my fellow humans. Then, after the vaccine clinic, I vaccinate myself with all vaccines present. I've been vaccinated for all influenzas since 2002, and pneumonia, re-vaccinated for DPaT, etc. Anything that helps me live longer so I can serve more people.

Vaccines work. Vaccines, compared to Aspirin, are far more effective and less costly with far fewer side-effects and injuries. They're also the reason, along with good sanitation, hygiene, diet, and western medicine, that most of us live past our thirties. They're also one of the reasons for the very low infant mortality rate.

The reason you are certain that the Big Farma CEOS don't vaccinate their kids is:

It helps you justify your beliefs to yourself. You have no information, no evidence, no reason to believe so. But, you like to speculate that it MUST be true because it helps justify your delusion.

Further, I submit to you that if EVERY CEO were vaccinated and had their children vaccinated, you still wouldn't change your claims or beliefs. You'd find someway to make this new information justify your destructive and unscientific fear mongering.

When you discover that, try saying to yourself:
"Those callous CEOs are so greedy and cruel they'll even sacrifice their own children!!!!"

See? That way you can keep believing your completely unfounded and insane delusion.

Oh- Site director? The widget returns an incorrect bodycount.

The anti-vaccine movement really gets me going. The fact that most vaccine preventable diseases have been eradicated thanks to vaccines means that they get away with far more than they should (ie. if everyone was getting measles no one would listen to them). I also think the media gives them far more air time than is either responsible or reflective of such minority thinking.
